Performance at the international art event “Symbols of Identity”
On August 24, Independence Day of Ukraine, the start of a large-scale international art project «Symbols of Identity»took place. The event took place at the National Museum of Decorative Arts of Ukraine in the National Reserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” and simultaneously brought together participants from 20 countries around the world. Its goal is to revive the ancient Ukrainian art of vybyka and create a collection of towels of the 21st century as a symbol of memory, dignity and national unity.
Vybyka is a unique technique of hand-printing on fabric that has existed in Ukraine since the 11th century. It combines ornament and symbolism, becoming a kind of “bridge” to self-knowledge and a sense of one’s identity. Today, this tradition is almost lost, which is why the “Symbols of Identity” project is so important. The participants of the event created their own vybyka towels, putting a personal story into each print. In the future, this unique collection will be kept in the funds of the National Museum of Decorative Arts, and in 2026 the towels will go on a world tour, which will end with a large-scale exhibition in Kyiv.
We were honored to join the event with musical accompaniment. Oleksandr Ivanko, a graduate of the Superhumans rehabilitation center and a participant in Victory Beats music therapy, performed his set, combining Ukrainian ethno-motifs with modern arrangements, which created a special atmosphere of creative immersion and echoed the theme of identity and the venue of the event.
The organizers are already preparing the next events in the series, and we are new sets to support them!
