Healing music: a relaxation session with an orchestra and a musician and DJ - a veteran of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - will take place at the Lviv Philharmonic.

On July 13, the Lviv National Philharmonic and the Victory Beats charity organization are opening a new direction of work - art therapy art. The first event of the long-term program in 2025 will be a unique relaxation session with the participation of the Academic Symphony Orchestra, British composer Nigel Osborne and veteran of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Ivanko, who underwent rehabilitation at the Superhumans center, where he joined the VictoryBeats art therapy program.

Captain of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Ivanko is also a student of the EnterDJ recreational DJing course, he already has stage experience as a DJ and a bass guitarist. A year ago, Oleksandr was seriously injured, as a result of which he lost his leg. And during rehabilitation, a new component was added to his life: active artistic activity. Now he joins the event as a musician-innovator, using a MIDI controller as part of the academic orchestra. Oleksandr will perform an electronic track created as part of the Victory Beats program, the orchestral score for it was written by Nigel Osborne, a world-renowned composer and music therapist who has worked with people who have experienced trauma for decades.

The event is also designed to show how music becomes a means of rehabilitation, support, and finding inner support. Visitors will be able to immerse themselves in a special sound space, where electronic ambient music will organically combine with the live sound of string instruments.

“Probably, there has never been anything like this in Ukraine – playing ambient music with a symphony orchestra. It’s interesting, it’s a new practice, new knowledge. Someone may want to take up musical activities after the event. In this way, we can also promote music therapy as a form of rehabilitation” – Oleksandr Ivanko.

“The composition is conventionally divided into two parts and uses two approaches at once: associative and relaxation. Smoothly guiding the listener from the bright pictures that the imagination draws to the music to a cozy inner world, peace and harmony.” – Volodymyr Nedogoda, founder of Victory Beats and EnterDJ.

“As an orchestral arranger, I combined deep musical structures with changing electronic soundscapes. The composition slowly unfolds modern fugues and canons, and although the rhythmic track is almost entirely written in natural C major, these structures pass through all the musical modes of the early Renaissance, as well as modern jazz and minimalism. In a quiet way, the whole world is present here,” – Nigel Osborne.

A surprise visit to our music therapy

We made a small surprise for our patient Felix. And he made a surprise for us. Felix always dreamed of learning to play the drums. Even before the war, he had a good ear for music and could play a little on different instruments. Unfortunately, the war changed a lot - Felix lost his leg and his hearing deteriorated. But he did not lose his thirst for music.
So on June 25, a professional drummer and teacher, Kyrylo, came to us to share his knowledge and skills. The guys immediately got along and Felix began to open up right before our eyes. From the first attempt to pick up the sticks to playing a whole series of pictures, only a few minutes passed! And to make the process even more fun, professional guitarist Yaroslava and our other patients arranged a whole concert of famous and original songs, where Felix joined in with drum parts.
The atmosphere was incredible, no one wanted to stop, and Felix only fueled everyone with energy, drive, and great love for music.
An evening of strength, inspiration, support — and the fact that dreams really do come true.

Zakhar's game on a midi controller

Zakhar is our regular visitor who comes to music therapy simply to get high from the sound and lift the spirits of everyone around him. “I come here to relax,” he says. “I never thought I could relax like this, except in my dreams.”

Yesterday, Zakhar decided not only to listen, but also to take part in creating music: he began to explore a midi controller. He was so fascinated by the process that he immediately wanted to try as many functions as possible — and each one gave new inspiration.

A special moment was when Zakhar began to transform music into certain images — he commented on sounds like: “space,” “Medieval Japan”… This fantasy enveloped the entire space of the music therapy room and transported everyone to a new reality.

Zakhar shows by his own example that anything is possible. You just have to overcome the thought “I can’t do anything” — and you can create something truly magical.

Results of the charity fundraising from the DNB party Sounds of Ukraine and Hospital Records

The afterparty of the grandiose SOU and Hospital Records party continues! As you remember, in addition to the epic debut performance of our Roman, the party also included a charity fundraiser in support of Victory Beats.

In total, we managed to collect 30,000 hryvnias, which we will spend on the purchase of equipment for our music therapy.

And now the first device is already with us - a brand new Lenovo laptop, which automatically adds +1 place to our increasingly popular direction of DJing and electronic music as therapy! Among other things, this direction is very helpful in restoring fine motor skills, improving memory, and in the case of midi controllers - even playing for people with arm amputations or very poor eyesight.

A big thank you to everyone who supports our activities, supports the return of people with injuries to a full life! A few more interesting things from SOU are on the way. Stay tuned for announcements )

In the photo - Felix studies using Push2 and a new laptop. Before his injury, he had perfect hearing. We believe that he will recover soon!
