How a soldier from Kherson became a DJ after 13 years of service
How a soldier from Kherson became a DJ after 13 years of service
The “Vgoru” publication has published a large article about one of the most prominent participants in our music therapy — Oleksandr Ivanko. We are publishing its abbreviated translation. You can read the full version on the publication’s website..
Oleksandr is a military engineer from Kherson, who, after 13 years of service, injury, and rehabilitation, discovered a new passion — music. After being injured as a result of a missile strike in April 2024, Oleksandr underwent rehabilitation at the Lviv “Superhumans” center. It was there that he first tried himself as a musician — first as a participant in music therapy, and later as a DJ and bass guitarist.
Meeting Volodymyr Nedogoda, the founder of the “Victory Beats” initiative, was a turning point: Oleksandr saw a DJ console and felt that music was his new path. He took the “EnterDJ” courses from Vlad Fisun, learned to write tracks, work with samples, and perform on stage.
As part of the music therapy group, Oleksandr performed on the “FestRepublic” stage with “Zhadan and Sobaki”, played in front of the first lady, the president, Prince Harry, as well as with “Druha Rika”, “Tin Soncia” and the Lviv Symphony Orchestra. In August 2025, he performed at the “National Legend of Ukraine” award with YAKTAK.
Oleksandr is currently working on his first original composition as a DJ. He says that this is “a large-scale work that requires reviewing kilometers of music and hundreds of samples”. His musical passion is supported by his entire family: his daughters are learning to play the guitar and synthesizer, and his wife has a wonderful vocal.
Oleksandr’s story inspires others as a vivid example of how creativity can become a source of strength, renewal and a new meaning in life.
